Just having a side-thought today… I have to say, I really appreciate all of the support that our friendly local game shop (FLGS) provides to our community. They’ve given us a place to get together with friends and strangers who have common interests to have fun and relax. (I’m usually there for D&D at least once per week.) There are various events that they host (D&D, Pathfinder, Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, comic/graphic novel stuff, board games, etc.). Not to mention the entire game library that you can rent from and try out a game before you’ve purchased it. Such a great idea!
Since they’ve been so supportive of all of us gamers (even if it is a business), it was great to see people give back to them. They recently moved to a larger space, and with the help of a Kickstarter campaign they’ve made a great transition. They now have food, beverages, and even more space for everyone. They even have various private and semi-private rooms for people to game in. I got to see many of the other backers yesterday as the shop threw a party to thank everyone who supported them. It was great to see all of the different people who love the store.
I know this all sounds a bit obvious, cheesy, and maybe even a little preachy. But, please make sure you support your FLGS! They really do give us gamers a lot of opportunities to make new friends, try new (geeky) things, and give us somewhere to get out of the house and have some fun. Sure items are more expensive there, but maybe just once in a while pay a couple extra bucks to make sure the little guys have a place to call home in your neighborhood. It really is a win for everyone.
To anyone that owns a FLGS, thank you for doing what you do!
